Wild sheep (mouflon) is among the most celebrated species of the mountainous habitats of Iran, once widespread in large herds, but now can be found in reserves of the country. Rams and ewes (with juvenile rams) live in separate herds for most of the year until they mix in the late Fall and dominant rams establish harems while occasional clashes between rams occur. Wild sheeps in Iran have different varieties of appearance, however mouflons of northeast country are known as Urial sheep. Urials are the largest in size among wild sheeps in Iran and Golestan National Park is one of their remaining habitats.
